Friends Of The Library

Friends of Library Information
The Friends group meets on the first Monday of every other month at 5:00 p.m at the Library. The goal of the Friends group is to promote community awareness of the library and raise funds for outreach programming and facility needs. Periodically, the Friends group will hold a fundraiser to aid the ongoing expansion efforts for the betterment of the library. Past efforts have included selling dinners at a food stand, raffling baskets of goods and services donated by area merchants at Market Square Day, and selling the book "Painting Missouri" by artist Billyo O'Donnell. The first art show held at the library was Billyo's work shown during the grand opening event in January 2009. www.paintingmissouri.com Watch this site for upcoming activities. The staff and board of the Mound City Public Library are pleased to recognize the good people who donate their time and good cheer to improve our library. Many thanks for their tireless efforts.
The Friends group has met monthly since its inception in April of 2008. As a nonprofit fund-raising group, they sell memberships, book bags and discarded and donated books. They have hosted two Luaus for the community. The Friends have assisted with supplies and snacks for library after-school programs and summer reading programs. The Friends have purchased signs for the library and several other fine fixtures and improvements. They give their time to chaperone the kids to and from cooperative programs with the wildlife refuge.
The Friends have formed cooperative relationships with the Mound City Kiwanis Club and Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge to bring more program opportunities to the children of Mound City and surrounding communities.
This group was instrumental in moving the library collection into the new library space in December 2008, with the help of 21 high school students. It took 7½ hours to complete the move. The Friends hosted a ribbon-cutting, grand opening and art show in the new library Jan. 2, 2009 when about 110 people enjoyed fellowship and refreshments provided by the Friends.
The Friends paid for the new exterior and interiors signs at the library. The group's annual fund-raising events include a Market Square Day book booth and the big Spring Book Sale.
To become part of the Friends, drop by the library this week or any first Monday of the month and fill out a membership form. Annual memberships are $5 for students, $10 for individuals, and $25 for families. All of the group's proceeds go to support the library and its programs.
The next meeting of the Friends group is at the library December 6th at 5 p.m
